The Lodger is a masterclass in tension, displaying all the trademarks of what was to become known as the typical Hitchcock thriller.
With his third feature film, Alfred Hitchcock took a major step toward greatness and made what he would come to consider his true directorial debut. The film is spirited by the palpable energy of a young stylist at play, decisively establishing the director’s formal and thematic obsessions.
The Lodger also marks the first known cameo appearance of Hitchcock, where he appears with his back to the camera in a newsroom.
