Did you know that sounds can be mixed as you may? Let’s play mixing sounds and experiment with them, shaping moving pictures just like shaping a plaster doll. A selection of shorts from the collections of Eye Film Museum are the starting point to this sound-mixing workshop.

Optical toys appeared in the 19th century as simple mechanisms that induce the illusion of movement in images. When we refer to optical toys, we are referring to an entire era that preceded cinema – the pre-cinema – and the fascination that, almost like magic, provokes (even today) in all those who explore it. In this workshop we will make a brief introduction to the Phenakistoscope, an optical toy from the 19th century.
